Fat around the midsection has long troubled gym-goers with less than stellar physiques. This can be attributed to our bodies’ tendency to pack most of our body fat around our bellies, buttocks and thighs. As such, this area can be the most stubborn to trim down when we’re working-out.

Time was when fitness aficionados sweating away in gyms and fitness centers were comprised of men. In the early days of fitness, there were no such things as aerobics classes and certainly no female bodybuilders. Those dark, barbaric days of exercising have are long gone and it’s now a common site to see women slugging it out in the octagon or pumping iron and getting ripped.

Lately, the controversial question is, are crunches bad for six pack abs. No, they are not bad for six pack abs, but if your goal is to attain visible six-pack abs, then you need to focus on other aspects of exercise and diet. Concentrating on resistance exercises that increase our metabolism to burn fat, monitoring our diet and reducing the amount of stress in our lives.

High intensity exercises are the key to getting a flat stomach. Ab exercises that target the abs will not give you a flat stomach. High intensity training will kick start your system and metabolism. This can be done through interval training and regular exercise.

In our quest for leanness and the fight against The Flab, a lot of people make the common mistake of putting their faith on the effectiveness of isolation exercises. In getting a lean abdomen, it might make sense to think doing lower ab exercises in order to target belly fat and bring out the six-pack most gym-goers yearn for is the answer.

For six-pack abs, ab machines do not work. Many ab machines on the market either don’t target the ab muscles directly or they can cause muscle imbalances that can cause other problems or potential injury. For six-pack abs, we must focus on our diet, and increasing our metabolism.
