Weight loss surgery has become a popular choice for people who have been unsuccessful at losing weight using conventional diet and exercise programs. Lap Band Surgery is one of the more popular choices because it is a safe and minimally invasive procedure. As well, this weight loss procedure has proven to be an effective method to achieving and maintaining long-term weight loss.

The laparoscopic adjustable gastric band is a relatively young weight loss procedure in the United States, having been approved by the FDA less than 10 years ago. The band resembles a shower curtain ring that has an inflatable inner ring that can be inflated or deflated with the addition or withdrawal of saline. Lap band surgery advantages are numerous. We will take a look at a few of them in this article.

The lap band is a surgical procedure, meaning that, as with all other abdominal surgeries, there are certain risks involved. These include but are not limited to infection, band slippage, stomach displacement, and leaking. Many of these risks can be controlled through medication, or corrected via simple laparoscopic surgery. As with undergoing any surgery, please be aware of serious or threatening risks involved.

A relatively new procedure even in the west, the Lap Band surgery involves taking a vinyl ring filled with saline and placing it around the upper portion of the stomach, constricting the stomach outlet in that area and creating an upper pouch that holds the food after eating. It is an excellent and safe way to lose weight.
It seems almost cliche to make a New Year’s resolution that has the words “weight loss” in it. As soon as New Year’s Day has passed, individuals start buying the gym memberships, treadmills, and other exercise equipment. However by the end of the year, the membership card is nowhere to be found and all of the exercise equipment has about two inches of dust on it. Many times, the weight loss New Year’s resolution doesn’t make it past Valentine’s Day with the large dinners and the boxes of chocolates. The temptations simply become too much.

Lap Band surgery may seem like the perfect solution to obesity for those who are struggling to lose weight. After all, a simple, non-invasive surgery could make you feel full with just a few bites of your meal, thus helping you to lose weight. Who wouldn’t like that idea? Before you sign up for the surgery, however, you need to know that not everyone who wants the LapBand system is qualified to receive it.
